Who is the Social Marketing Lady?

The Social Marketing Lady and her website were created by me, Cheryl Brown, to offer free and friendly advice to people who are developing their marketing skills and knowledge with a particular focus on social marketing. I am a marketing lecturer, consultant and researcher based in Brighton, UK and my work focuses on helping people to learn about and apply marketing especially to the area of research communication and uptake. As a new mum, I am also interested in exploring behaviour change and families.

Having worked in international development for nearly eight years, and as a marketing tutor for four, I set up my own business in January 2010 so I can spend more time:

inspiring student marketers to be proud of their profession and helping them to grow their skills, knowledge and ambitions;

mentoring marketers who lack peer support and helping them to apply marketing theory and good practice in their organisation.

applying my experience of influencing behaviours around information use and sharing, to projects with a social marketing component.

giving free online marketing advice to marketing students and people who are new to marketing through my website, The Social Marketing Lady.

I am a Chartered Marketer and received my CIM Postgraduate Diploma in 2007, having studied with the Oxford College of Marketing. I have been a team manager, in-house trainer, union rep, trustee, and project manager of a strategy process, so I have significant experience in negotiation, facilitation and organisational change.
